Authors of Accepted Chapters,
Hello, all, as we are getting close to our deadline with the publisher, I am contacting you all with some final information that you will need to be aware of as you submit your final materials.  Attached are a number of items, some of which must be returned to me with your final chapter.  First, please read the final instructions for authors document, it tells you everything you will need to do in this last step of the process.  I have highlighted information in yellow that is particularly important.  In this regard, please note that you will need to create a list of 8-12 key terms for the indexer of the volume, and electronically highlight occurrences of those terms in your paper.  Please send a list of the terms chosen to me as a separate file.  As indicated, you will also need to send me a brief bio of yourself, a complete mailing address (with phone contact number for the publisher), the Author Warranty form (see attachment), and the Library Acquisitions form (see attachment).  Finally, you will need to send me the completed author checklist form (which is attached as well). Everything, including your final, copy edited draft with highlighted terms, can be sent electronically, with the caveat that the Author Warranty form can only be sent electronically if you use the digital signature program (otherwise you will need to send that document in the mail, or fax it to me at [phone]). Instructions concerning digital signatures are provided, but, again, you can send this document in the mail or fax it as well.  If you have sent me your revised versions already, and I have not asked for any further corrections, then you can complete your submissions by sending in the material requested, along with the revised version of your paper with the indexed terms highlighted (I will add Chapter numbers, so do not worry about that part).  If you have not yet given me the revised version of your paper, and go ahead and include the highlighted index terms as  well, please do so as soon as possible (and if you can not do so within the next 10 days, please let me know ASAP, so that I can talk to the publisher).  Ideally, I would like to have all final submissions, along with the supporting material, in my hands by October 5th (and if you are mailing your Author Warranty, bear in mind the time it will take to mail the form).  If this will be a problem for anyone, again, let me know as soon as possible, so that I can see what additional time, if any, we can get from the publisher.  I thank you all for your work on this volume, I am very pleased with the papers that were accepted, and think it is going to be an excellent work, if we can get all the final details in place.  As always, if there are any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.

I am pleased to inform you that I finalized the review of the paper according to the comments I received for the reviewers and from yourself and you will find attached the final version. First of all, I would reiterate my thanks to yourself and to the reviewers for their kind support and guidance. You have help strengthen the impact of the document, its clarity and focus.

I addressed the comments received in two steps:

- for those comments which were inserted with revision marks and notes within the text itself, I clarified or corrected according to your comments and those of the reviewers.
- for those comments which were provided separately, as part of the Chapter Evaluation, I did a specific work to address all of them.

For this second group of comments, please find hereunder some specific responses:

The author uses several definitions and ideas in the introduction and background section but does not adequately cite the literature. For instance, email is defined under email structure yet no source is provided as to where that technical definition comes from.

- I have completed the introduction as well as the definition of e-mail. I have completed the list of references accordingly.

More information on some of the other types of issues explored in e-business would be informative. The author refers to “ Previous research on ethical issues in e-business mainly addresses the relation of e-businesses with their external environment” (p.2) Including some of the literature that the author is referring to would strengthen this area.

- I have completed the litterature review as to be in line with this comment.

Table 2 provides a nice “at a glance’ overview of the actions and organizational consequences with email misuse. This table should be better labeled – clearly explaining what the horizontal and vertical column headers represent.

- I have reviewed the labeling of the table, and provided an explanation of its content.

The author states in the opening that “three specific avenues are explored: modernity and communication with the “absent other”, the right of privacy, and information overload.” When these are introduced later in the chapter, they should be given some type of introduction to let the reader know that these are the three areas of exploration. Otherwise, they get lost in with the other ideas.

- The various headings as well as the introduction to this section have been reviewed accordingly, so that the reader can follow more easily and doesn't get lost.

- I have also taken good note of the references to sociatechnical theory and I thank the reviewers for these elements. I should be using them for my further research.

- I have also considered the addition of a table comparing e-mail to traditional media. However, I finally decided not to include it in this paper, since this would have requested further restructuring of the chapter. I'll neverthelss use this advice in future work.

I am happy to let you know that your paper has been accepted, with minor revisions, for final inclusion in the volume Ethical Issues in E-Business.  I am including, with this e-mail a formal acceptance letter, as well as a page that includes the comments of the reviewers (I have combined them) and a marked-up version of the paper that includes comments and revisions by the reviewers, along with my own comments and requested revisions (some of these were just small grammatical issues, others are slightly more substantial).  If you would carefully review both of these documents and address the issues requested by the reviewers and myself and revise your paper accordingly in preparing your final version for publication, it would be greatly appreciated.  If you have any questions about the comments or what not, feel free to contact me at any point in the process, as I would be happy to help you prepare the final version of your paper.  Ideally, it would be nice to have the revised version of your paper back within three weeks (roughly around the end of August), though I can allow some extra time if there are any specific issues- just let me know if you need more time so that I can build it into my time frame.  Since the revisions called for are fairly minor, I think you should be able to respond to them fairly quickly, but again, if there are any questions or problems just let me know.  I would also appreciate your letting me know that you received this e-mail and the attached documents, since as we get closer to the publishers deadlines, I want to make sure all information has been received.  Finally, I will be sending you some information that you will need to prepare your final submission (after the final revisions are done) for the publisher shortly, which you will need to read carefully in preparing your final submission packet. Again, I am happy that we are able to include your paper in our volume, and look forward to receiving the final version.

Chère Séverine,

il est 22h30, heure de Genève, et je vais donc transmettre mon projet de chapitre à Daniel Palmer, l'éditeur de "Ethical Issues in E-Business". Je devrais me passer de vos commentaires, qui ne me sont pas parvenus mais j'ai pu intégrer, au moins en partie, ceux de Benoît qui m'ont été fort utiles !

J'ai bien compris que vous avez eu un accident de voiture et que vous avez été choquée et brièvement hospitalisée. Néanmoins, vous m'aviez indiqué que cela vous laisserait plus de temps pour vous occuper de ce qui comptait vraiment: mon travail !

Force m'est de constater que cela n'est pas le cas. Je vous ai proposé de faire le rendez-vous par téléphone, plutôt que de vous déplacer. Je vous ai rappelée (SMS) en début d'après-midi avant l'heure prévue de notre rendez-vous. Je n'ai reçu aucune nouvelle, aucun commentaire, même pas un accusé de réception...

J'espère que vous allez bien et que mes propos ne paraîtront pas soudain trop durs du fait d'une éventuelle suite médicale à votre accident. Même dans ce cas, je pense que vous auriez pu faire signe à Benoît afin qu'il m'informe.

Néanmoins, ma décision est prise, notre collaboration s'arrête ce soir. Je demanderai à Benoît dans quelques minutes, par le biais d'un courriel plus formel, qu'il désigne un autre superviseur.

Je vous souhaite un prompt rétablissement et réussite pour vos autres projets.

Envoi du chapitre définitif à Séverine.

Bonsoir Séverine,

j'espère que ce mail vous trouvera en bonne forme et que les éléments que je vous transmets correspondront à votre attente.

Suite à mon mail du 3 mai, en vue de notre 1er point mensuel du 4 mai, je n'ai pas reçu de commentaires sur le document que je vous avais transmis, ni le 4 mai, ni pendant la semaine, ce qui m'a énormément déçu. J'ai cependant relu le compte rendu de notre conversation du mois d'avril et j'en ai conclu que vous n'aviez pas fait de commentaires parce que je n'avais pas envoyé le document 2 jours avant la date prévue pour notre entretien (mais j'en espérais vraiment pendant la semaine). Vous aviez vous-même indiqué que le rendez-vous pourrait avoir lieu par téléphone ou par e-mail.

Cela étant, je ne désespère pas encore !  Vous n'aviez peut-être rien à me signaler, soit parce que le draft était incomplet, soit parce que vous le trouviez très bien ! Malgré tout, j'apprécierais de votre part un feedback, ne serait-ce qu'un accusé de réception et, si une raison particulière vous a poussé à ne pas commenter, merci également de me le faire savoir: cela peut m'être utile.

Je vous transmets donc en pièce jointe le projet de chapitre que j'ai terminé... 3 jours avant notre point prévu pour le 14 ! J'espère que ce délai vous permettra de lire le document. Il est complet, rédigé selon les instructions de l'éditeur (notamment la structure). Même si c'est un travail réalisé assez tôt dans mon cycle de recherche (trop tôt sans doute), je ne suis pas mécontent du résultat.

Pouvez-vous m'indiquer si vous viendrai à Genève jeudi ? Peut-être préférez-vous une rencontre téléphonique ? C'est aussi une possibilité, puisque nous aurons le document sous les yeux de toute façon. Merci de me le faire savoir en avance.

Je pense avoir suivi le modus operandi que nous nous étions fixés lors de notre dernière conversation (même si je n'ai envoyé mon texte précédent que le 3 mai). Je pense aussi avoir fourni un travail très raisonnable (au moins en ce qui concerne l'effort, je ne préjuge pas du résultat). En conséquence, j'espère que vous prendrez cette fois le temps de commenter mon travail. J'ai l'intention de travailler assez tard jeudi pour intégrer vos commentaires éventuels avant d'envoyer le document à l'éditeur car je serai ensuite absent.

Ai envoyé un premier draft du chapitre à Séverine.

Bonjour Séverine,

avant notre conversation, prévue demain, je vous envoie le projet de chapitre dans son état actuel. Il est bien sûr incomplet (j'en suis à peu près à la moitié) mais je progresse !

Par ailleurs, une mauvaise nouvelle : selon le point fait cette semaine avec l'éditeur, les manuscrits devraient être remis dans deux semaines au plus tard (en non en juin comme je l'avait cru). Cela va donc être extrêmement serré. D'un autre côté, sachant que j'utilise cette rédaction comme un exercice, y consacrer un peu moins de temps n'est pas trop grave, surtout si le manuscrit n'est pas retenu...

Pa railleurs, nous avons eu une rencontre la semaine passé de plusieurs co-étudiants, à laquelle Benoît a aimablement accepté de participer. Vous pourrez partager ensemble ses impressions (il a été très discret, laissant le soin au superviseur de commenter les efforts de l'étudiant !)

Pour l'anecdote, avant que nous n'y consacrions plus de temps, sachez que j'ai présenté à cette occasion une question de recherche révisée :
